Iceland is a world class destination for ski touring, backcountry skiing and ski mountaineering. The center of activity is the Troll Peninsula in northern Iceland with vertical descents of up to 1500m or almost 5000ft, thousands of peaks and slopes for all abilities with abundant snow fall make this a paradise for skiers and mountaineers. The season lasts from around mid March until the beginning of June and with the continual daylight of the Arctic Sun overhead and mild temperatures, snow conditions remain favorable with great corn skiing and the occasional powder dump well into June. The fact that the Troll Peninsula is surrounded by the Arctic Ocean makes for incredible opportunities of skiing right down to the ocean on stable coastal snowpack but also adds the excitement of Arctic weather and conditions. 	Haute Route of the Troll's - 6 day High level traverse This epic high level route is the brain child of Jökull Bergmann. For many years Jökull had a dream of connecting all the great ski slopes of the Troll Peninsula into one big traverse where you would ski the entire length of the Peninsula from North to South, starting in the picturesque fishing village of Siglufjörður and ending in the capital of Northern Iceland Akureyri. Unlike the Alps the Troll Peninsula is lacking a network of comfortable mountain huts but we make this Haute Route possible by using 4x4 vehicles that put us in place and retrieve us each day allowing us to base out of Klængshóll Lodge for the entire week. 	Short ski tours - Ski mountaineering Ski touring and Ski mountaineering possibilities in Iceland are endless. If you can not participate in one of our longer trips we offer you the possibilitie of one or two day trips based out of Reykjavik or wherever you are staying. This allows you maximum flexibiliy with your busy schedule in Iceland. Ideas for short ski touring and ski mountaineering objectives include Hvannadalshnúkur, Iceland's highest peak with over 2000m of vertical descent, Mt Hekla and many other glaciers and peaks.
	Glacier Fjords - Sailboat ski touring adventure The combination of a 60ft yacht, superb ski touring terrain and the breath taking beauty of Hornstrandir Nature Reserve is the recipe for this unique ski adventure. Based out of our floating mountain hut Aurora we explore the remote Cape Horn region of NW Iceland. We ski from one fjord to another whilst our floating home sails around to meet us. 	High passes of the Elves - 5 day ski mountaineering trip The glacial plateau that dominates the interior of the Troll Peninsula is a unique zone in Iceland's diverse nature, and reminds one of such areas in Greenland and Antarctica but on a much smaller scale. This is a cold and barren place, but full of rugged beauty and wonderful opportunities to ski Nunataks and experience an adventure of a lifetime. We base out of one of Iceland's only high alpine huts for a couple of days and than regain the comforts of Klængshóll Lodge. More
