There are a number of waterfalls in the north of Iceland that are ideal for climbing when the temperatures drop below 0.  This course is ideally done over one evening session and one day in the field, however this can be adjusted to your timeframe. The evening session is intended to prepare the participants for the field day by introducing them to the equipment, safety procedures and techniques. Equipment plays an important role in ice climbing and we spend quite some time going over the different tools and gadgets required to climb ice. Ice climbing is not a risk free sport and therefore it is extremely important to go over and discuss all the objective hazards associated with the sport so that during the field day we can put that knowledge into practice. We will also go over climbing technique, ropes, knots and all the basics of ice climbing. Our field day is dedicated to movement on ice, anchor building and furthering our awareness of safety issues and emergency procedures.

Please keep in mind that Akureyri is located in the north of Iceland (approximately 5.5 hours from Reykjavik). If you are looking for something closer to Reykjavik please have a look at our Sólheimajökull Climbing Clinic or Reykjavik Ice Climbing options.

This course can be customized to suit your goals. Please contact us for further information and pricing.
