Ski touring in Northern Iceland Troll Peninsula

A 4 day alpine ski touring trip on Northern Iceland's Troll Peninsula with Iceland's only certified mountain guides

Siglo Signature Ski Touring - 4 Days

For this one of a kind ski touring trip we will be based out of the charming Siglo Hotel.  All rooms in this brand new high end hotel have views over the surrounding mountains and marina.  After a great day of skiing you can relax on the cozy windowseat of your room and enjoy the views in this quiet little haven in North Iceland.  Enjoy the outdoor spa and sauna, strolling through the historic fishing village or even some more turns at the local ski resort only 5 minutes away. The list of fun activities to be enjoyed besides skiing is endless and includes whale watching, sea angling, horseback riding, visiting volcanos, hot springs, lava fields and other spectacular natural monuments in the region.

If you want to bring the family along there is no better place to base out of than Siglo Hotel where special programs for non ski touring members of your group can easily be arranged.

All meals are enjoyed in the hotel restaurant Sunna where our top notch chef prepares local delicacies straight from the ocean. For some this tour might seem just as much about culinary enjoyment as skiing but we like to think that it is the perfect blend of world class ski touring, high end lodging and fine dining. For those looking for something even more special an upgrade to one of the hotels suites might be just what's needed.

In the booming days of the herring era, Siglufjörður was dubbed the Herring capital of the world.  Ever since then this northernmost town of Iceland has been considered one of the country´s most historic places.  In recent years Siglufjörður is becoming known as one of Iceland´s best locations for ski touring.  Surrounded by peaks there are endless options for touring and countless runs that will take you down to the sea.

The terrain offers a great variety of mountains and slopes for every level of skier, from those who seek steep couloirs to those who like to let her loose on the big open slopes. The choices are endless and one could easily spend a lifetime exploring the peaks and valleys of the region. After each day of skiing we soak our weary but happy feet in the hotel spa or in one of the regions many geothermal baths.

A typical day-to-day program for a 4 day Siglo Signature Ski Touring trip

Day 0 / Arrival
Pick up in Akureyri the capital of northern Iceland in the late afternoon / early evening followed by the 1.15  hour transfer to Siglo Hotel for a meet and greet. Welcome dinner is served and we go over the week's agenda. Enjoy an evening stroll through the quiet streets of historic Siglufjördur village or lounge in the hotel spa before retiring to the comfort of your room and down duvet.

Day 1
Our first day of skiing. The morning is spent on detailed avalanche transceiver and avalanche rescue training, followed by our first peak of many. Our average daily vertical ranges from 1000-1800 meters depending on the group. For those that want more we can go until your legs say stop, for here the night is no excuse as the midnight sun barely touches the ocean before it rises again in the later half of our season.

Day 2-3
Skiing the peaks above the quaint fishing village of Olafsfjordur allows us the rare pleasure of sitting in the hot tub and admiring our perfect tracks on the surrounding peaks. The Troll Peninsula is the home of some of Iceland's most accomplished skiers and it is no wonder considering the terrain they grew up in.

Day 4
This is our last ski day and of course we have saved the best for last. After another great day we say our good byes and head home with the memory of a unique ski touring holiday and already have our plans for future adventures falling into place.
